Kwadwo Sir John Owusu Afriyie

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says the incessant deaths of leading members of the party is an act of God.

In his view, God in his own wisdom knows why he has taken such stalwarts from the party at a time they are preparing fervently for a crucial general elections in November.

“These deaths cannot be attributed to any evil spirit; God knows best” he stated in an interview on Adom News Monday.

The NPP has lost about four leading members including its former Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. The latest casualty is the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Peter Wiafe Peprah, who died on Saturday, May 21, 2016, while on admission at the 37 Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

This phenomenon many including prophets say it is a bad omen for the party if it does not act fast and embark on prayer and fasting.

But Sir John, as he is popularly called, believes the prophets are making a mountain out of a molehill.

He explained that the late members of the party don’t come from the same family to suffer the same fate.

Sir John urged party members to pray for God for strength especially for its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo for a resounding victory in the November polls.
