Majority of Ghanaians are not happy with the present performance of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his entire government for the first two years that they have been in charge, a new poll has found.

Despite the government claiming to have achieved a lot within the period of two years, as many as 5percentnt of 1,035 people sampled across the country in the poll conducted by iPoll in partnership with TV3 said they were not satisfied with the performance of the government.

According to them, the government “has failed to satisfy the majority of Ghanaians”. Interestingly, the majority of the respondents, representing 52 percent, said they voted for the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 general elections.

The poll, which was conducted to assess the public’s view of the performance of the present government and some of its top appointees after two years in office, only 40 percent of respondents said they are satisfied with the performance of the Akufo-Addo government.

January 7, 2019, marked exactly two years since Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn in as the President of Ghana having won the 2016 presidential election on December 7. On the occasion of the anniversary, the respondents were asked whether they approve of how he, his government and some of his key appointees have performed so far.

Again a significant number of Akufo-Addo’s key appointees received negative approval rating however some of them, including the Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Minister of Energy and Petroleum were rated as having performed “satisfactorily” in the eyes of voters that was present.

The leadership of parliament, however, received more favorable ratings with the Speaker, the Majority and Minority leaders all scoring net positive approval ratings above 50 percent.

Also, 72 percent of the respondents who were asked whether they approve of how the Minority leader in parliament Haruna Iddrisu is performing his duties answered positively with only 25 percent saying No.

In the case of the Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu 56 percent of the respondents answered yes and about 35 percent answered No with only 10 percent saying they did not know if he is performing his duties well or otherwise.

Speaker Prof. Mike Ocquaye had a total of 52 percent of the respondents saying they were satisfied with his performance with just about 41 percent saying No.
