Henceforth, ‘Denkyira-Obuasi’ as it was formerly known is now ‘New Obuasi’ upon deliberations by the residents and chiefs of the town. This is in a bid to restore the dented image of the town in recent times.
The town which is located in the Central Region has been in media spotlight since the lynching of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama by some irate residents.
The news which obviously upset the military upon it broke compelled them to storm the area leading to some residents fleeing from the area, for fear of retaliation by the military.
Upon constant deliberations, the chiefs and residents of Denkyira-Obuasi have reached a consensus to rename the town New Obuasi to signify the turn of a new leaf.
According to reliable sources, the area hopes this will help with clearing the stigma and disdain that currently accompany the old name of New Obuasi.
