The ’ember’ months are here again and motorist have been advised to adhere to traffic rules to reduce road accidents.
This was reiterated at the flagging off of the Idiroko Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)  ember months campaign, tagged: Ävoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive”  The Commander of the Unit, ACC Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, said the ember months are evil months characterized by road accidents.
He said disobedience to road traffic rules, which often referred to as human errors takes the lead among the three factors responsible for crashes on the road.
“There is nothing negative or evil about these months, except that we usually witness a high volume of movement and increase in human activities, occasioned by various ceremonies and largely celebrated festivals such as the Christmas and New Year.”
FRSC, being the leading agency saddled with the responsibility of making highway more safer for the users has made it a point of duty and mandatory to call attention of road users to the importance of obeying traffic rules during the last quarter of the year, popularly known as ’ember months’ to prevent unnecessary lost of lives and property.
“There is need for a robust campaign, targeted at increasing awareness on safe road practices to achieve zero or minimal road accidents,” ACC Olaluwoye, added.
He further stated that  road users should always be careful and  safety conscious while on highways. Motorists are expected to avoid excessive speed, fatigue, use of worn-out tyres, overloading, wrongful overtaking and drunk driving, as these are the only solutions to minimize traffic crashes during the ’ember months’ and beyond.
