Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan lands in Cameroon for AFCON 2021 draw

Ex-Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan is currently Cameroon, for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw.

The draw for the continental showpiece will take place in Yaounde this evening, Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Gyan is among the African legends who have been invited for the draw, where the 24 qualified teams will be paired into six groups of four.

The 35-year-old is a legend of the AFCON, having played in a record seven tournaments and scored six goals in the process.

Meanwhile, Ghana is placed in Pot 2 ahead of the draw alongside the likes of Egypt, the Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea.

Pot 1 also includes hosts Cameroon, defending champions Algeria, 2019 finalists Senegal, Nigeria and Morocco.

Ghana lost out on being seeded for the draw after dropping in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on August 12.

Charles Kwablan (CK) Akonnor’s side also currently occupies seventh-place among their continental rivals on the FIFA ranking.

The Black Stars coach has also arrived in Cameroon for the 2021 AFCON draw, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said in a statement.

Akonnor is there with the Head of the National teams department Alex Asante, having undergone their mandatory COVID-19 test.
