The Ghana Black Stars may have put up a ‘poor’ performance at the just-ended AFCON 2019 but that did not stop the Ghanaian Government from spending nearly half a million dollar in feeding them at the tournament.

An amount of $419,300 was, according to the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, spent on feeding during the AFCON 2019 in Egypt.

Tunisia defeated the Stars on penalties in the round of 16, and at that stage the country, according to the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, had already spent $4.5 million.

The amount spent on the failed Black Stars was the same amount paid as prize money for the winners, Algeria.

Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, briefing Parliament Wednesday, July 24, 2019, disclosed that the country budgeted $6.3million.

Breakdown

The Minister provided the breakdown of the expenses incurred during Ghana’s participation in the tournament in Egypt which he acknowledged was “below expectations”.

According to him, Ghana hired coach Kwesi Appiah with a “clear mandate” to lead the Black Stars win the trophy and end a 37-year drought.
