Allied Health Professional Council Board
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has inaugurated new governing boards for four health institutions and agencies under its jurisdiction.

The boards include Nursing and Midwifery Council Board, Allied Health Professional Council Board, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons Board and the Plant Medicine Research Council Board.

At an inaugural ceremony held at the conference room of the Ministry in Accra, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu administered the oaths of office and secrecy to the members of the boards in separate sessions.

College of Physicians and Surgeons Board

Shortly after swearing the board members into office, Mr. Agyeman-Manu said the individuals on the boards are distinguished professionals in their respective fields.

He said the health institutions and agencies under the ministry are faced with challenges adding that the boards are expected to make conscious efforts in addressing them.

Nursing and Midwifery Council Board

“Because of the Agenda 111, we will not have resources for health infrastructure. But, agencies generate internal funds and that is where I want you to look at for effective management,” he said.

The 11-member Nursing and Midwifery Council Board is chaired by Isabella Madam Naana Akyaa Asante, President’s Nominee. Members of the board are Mr. Felix Nyante, Registrar of the Council, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, Registered Nurse, Mrs. Netta Forson Ackon, Registered Midwife, Dr. Dr. Otchere Addai-Mensah, Nursing School of the Universities, and Madam Monica Afra Nkrumah, Nursing and Midwifery Schools.

Other members are Mrs. Lesline Nyankson, Principal State Attorney, Tina Gifty Naa Ayele Mensah, Ministry of Health, Kennedy B. Japiong, Nurses and Midwives Professionals within Security Agencies, Dr. Francis Boateng Agyenim and Mr. Anthony Yaw Oppong, both representing non-health professionals.

The 13-member College of Physicians and Surgeons Board is chaired by Professor Yaw Adu Gyamfi, President’s Nominee, with members including Prof. Richard M.K. Adanu, Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS), Dr. John Nkrumah Mills, President of the College, Prof. Samuel Akobour Debrah, Vice President (Surgeon), Dr. Audrey Gyanuah Forson Vice President (Physician).
Other members of the board are Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Ministry of Health Representative, Prof. Daniel Ansong, Deans of Medical and Dental Profession, Dr. Ishmen Kyei, Medical and Dental Profession, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Dansu, C.E.Os of Teaching Hospitals, Prof. Paul Kwamen Nyame, Medical and Dental Council, Mrs. Frederica S. Illiasu, Attorney-General, Dr. Seth Makafui Caleb-Joshua Dayie, Medical Residents and Nana Kojo Danso-Mensah Presidents Nominee.

For the 11-member Allied Health Professional Council Board, President’s Nominees, Prof. Augustine W. Kwame Kyere is the Chairperson with Dr. Samuel Yaw Opoku, Registrar, Mr. Prince Rockson, Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu, Dr. Samuel Kyei and Mr. Ofori-Amoah Justice, all Registered Practitioners in an Allied Health Profession.

Other members are Dr. Matilda Asante, Allied Health Professional from Training Institution, Dr. Ernest Konadu Asiedu, Ministry of Health, Mrs. Anna Pearl Akiwumi Siriboe, Attorney’s Generals’ Department, Mr. Richard Asamoa-Mensah, and Cynthia Adu Minister’s nominees.

The nine-member Plant Medicine Research Council Board is chaired by Mr. Thomas Boateng Appiagyei, President’s nominee. Members are Dr. Kofi Bobi Barimah, Ag. Executive Director, Centre for Plant Medicine Research, Dr. Anastasia Yirenkyi, Director, Traditional and Alternative Medicine Directorate, Ministry of Health.

Other members are Prof. Sebastian Eliason, Dean of accredited Medical Schools, Professor Isaac Julius Asiedu-Gyekye, Dean of accredited schools or faculties of Pharmacy, Mr. Seth Kwaku Seaneke, Representative of the Food and Drugs Board, Prof. Paul Pinnock Bosu, CSIR nominee, Dr. Maureen Martey, Ministry of Health, Mr. Prince Philip Larbie, Traditional medicine practitioner.

The Chairpersons of the boards expressed their gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for his confidence in them to do the work and assured that they would work to help improve health outcomes in the country.
