INDIA HAS opened five libraries in Ghana as part of efforts to promote knowledge sharing and cultural exchanges between between Ghana and India.
The libraries located at the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region, Delhi Public School (DPS) International in the Greater Accra Region, and three Technical Institutions, contain books on Indian cultures.
Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Birender Singh Yadav, made this known in an interview with Daily Guide recently when he donated 48 Indian books to DPS International.
Twelve of the learning materials are Hindi Books and are on the Indian Society and Culture, History of Delhi Sultanate, Development of Vedic Culture, Samkaleen Konkani Ekanki, among others.
The books are expected to be kept in the various libraries and made accessible to students and members of the public with interest in Indian cultures and societies.
The High Commissioner indicated that the library project form part of the Indian Government’s agenda to share knowledge with the rest of the world about Indian cultures.
According to Mr. Singh Yadav, all Indian embassies around the world have been urged to reach out to selected schools and universities globally for the library project.
The High Commissioner indicated that each embassy is required to select at least five schools or universities, nothing that “we are very happy that DPSI is one of those five institutions in Ghana.”
