Initially, there were reports that, perhaps,
the victims had been kidnapped by some fake National Security officials.

But Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
has said the National Security carried out the arrest in Kumasi.

He has, therefore, allayed the fears of Kumasi
residents, who were apprehensive that it was another case of kidnapping. According
to him, the National Security, per information reaching him, had a court order
to effect an arrest.

“The National Security has claimed
responsibility for the arrests of some Indians in Kumasi, so it is not
kidnapping. According to the National Security, the suspects were engaging in
illegal gold business, hence their arrest,” he pointed out.

Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah said the National Security
was in the process of sending the suspects to court soon.

Addressing journalists during a meet-the-press
event in Kumasi, he reiterated that it was not a kidnapping case.
