Manchester United are in the final of a European Cup, the UEFA Europa League, the first time ever in the final of this competition and in the history of the club.
Manchester United aim to join an elite band of teams to have won all three of UEFA’s major club competitions as they square up to AFC Ajax in the UEFA Europa League final. Should they prevail, they would collect the one trophy missing from their collection of major European honours.
So far, only four teams have lifted each of the European Champion Clubs’ Cup/ UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup/ UEFA Europa League and European Cup Winners’ Cup. As recounted by UEFA, only these proud quartet: namely AFC Ajax, Bayern München, Chelsea and Juventus, hold this distinguished record.
Interestingly,one of the distinguished quartets in AFC Ajax stands between Manchester United and their elite status. The final match is on the 24th May, 2017 in Stockholm at the Friends Arena, Sweden. Kick off time is 18.45GMT.
