Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba has reportedly given his reassurances to the hierarchy at Manchester United that he will knuckle down following his failed move to Real Madrid and will not be a bad influence on the team.

The World Cup winning midfielder spent the summer
angling for a move away to Real Madrid, and was widely expected to join Zinedine Zidane‘s side at the Bernabeu.

No
such bid materialised however, leaving the English transfer deadline to come
and go without Pogba getting his wish.

On the eve of the new season however, Pogba has
reassured his side that he will remain dedicated to the cause for United, as
report the Mirror.

Pogba
is likely to be relied upon more than ever this season, after United failed to
bring in a central midfielder during the summer window.

Reliable
star Ander Herrera departed Old Trafford for Paris Saint Germain following the
expiration of his contract, despite manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wish for him
to stay.

The United
midfield has been weakened as a result, with Pogba now expected to lead from
the centre of the park with the likes of Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and
Fred beside him.

News of
Pogba’s renewed determined will be welcomed by Solskjaer, who is also said to
be considering the Frenchman as first choice captain in the absence of Ashley
Young.

Young is
entering the final stages of his United career, with the club yet to decide a
permanent successor for the armband.

Pogba was
handed the duties under former manager Jose Mourinho, though a breakdown in the
relationship between the pair saw the honour rescinded.

Pogba and
United return to action for their opening game of the 2019-20 Premier League
season on Sunday, as they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford. Kick-off at
16.30.
