  The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs Caroline Adepoju, has ordered investigation into allegations of passport racketeering against personnel of the service in the South East. The Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, Adedotun Aridegbe said this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Passport Control Officers in the region have been accused of charging extra fees in addition to the official fees for obtaining international passports. Just In! NIS Begins Acceptance Of New Passport Application

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is reportedly now accepting applications for new passports. Oyo state command’s comptroller, Safiya Mohammed disclosed this during a send-off for Usman Babangida, the outgoing comptroller on Tuesday, June 8. Mohammed said that the new applications which started at 12 midnight on Tuesday are in line with the directive of the NIS’ Comptroller-General, Muhammad Babandede. She said:- “The agency had suspended new applications for passports to clear the backlog of passport applications that were received. “One of the priorities of the CG is the processing and prompt delivery of passports to applicants.
