Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, has been honored with the United States Department of State’s Women of Courage Award for 2017.

The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson in presenting the award to Charlotte Osei said: “Charlotte Osei epitomizes the phrase, woman of courage.”

He also commended the EC boss for her bravery before, during and after the 2016 general elections, as well as, the reforms she undertook to ensure that the polls were credible.
Mrs. Osei on her part expressed gratitude to the US government for the award, saying that she was “totally overwhelmed and humbled by this recognition.”

She, however, asserted to the fact that her ability to achieve success in her work wasn’t as a result of her singular effort but a collaborative one with her subordinates.
“…The success of the elections was not and could not be the reasons for one person’s efforts. Numerous people contributed in diverse ways to the successful elections and the national peace and stability we continue to enjoy.”

The EC boss also used the platform to thank her staff and colleague commissioners, whom she said: “From the first day I stepped into office at the commission and even in our most trying times, continue to support me and help deliver on the constitutional mandate of the Commission.”

The Women of Courage Award is an American award presented every year to women around the world who have shown leadership, courage, and willingness to sacrifice for others, particularly in enhancing women’s rights.
