Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Obed Asamoah has validated claims by the school of thought that Jerry John Rawlings is not the founder of the political party.

Dr. Asamoah stated that it was contrary to the code of conduct of the Ghana army, of which Jerry John Rawlings was a member around the time the party was formed. It is therefore impossible for him to claim to be the founder of the party.

He revealed that Rawlings was an active member of the military in 1192 when he [Asamoah] took steps to register the NDC at the Electoral Commission office.

According to Dr. Asamoah, former president John Jerry Rawlings was only accepted into the NDC after resigning from the military. His comments follow that of NDC stalwart Alhaji Mohammed Sani who earlier denounced the notion that JJ. Rawlings was the founder of the NDC.

Sani Mohammed had then stated that Rawlings at best was a member of the founding fathers of the NDC and not a sole founder of the party.

These comments weren’t taken lightly as he was subjected to vicious backlash on several social media platforms.
